During World War II the United States and the Soviet Union
had joined forces to fight against Nazi aggression. This was an unnatural alliance to begin with.
The United States did not trust the Soviet Leader Joseph Stalin because of the alliance he had made
with the Nazi's earlier. Stalin blamed the allies for not invading German occupied Europe
earlier and creating a second front. Driven by these arguments and other ideological differences
the former allies began to pursue opposite goals for what the post war world should be.
